Electrician Apprenticeship and Training Center
A representative from the Richmond Electricians' Joint Apprenticeship and Training Center will be here during block 3 on Wednesday, March 29. Mr. Gary Duff, a licensed electrician, will describe how high school graduates can get a job that comes with paid training. Electricians have excellent employment prospects and wages. This is a great opportunity for students who do not think college is a good option for them. See Mrs. Redd in counseling to sign up. Deadline to sign up is March 24th.
August SAT Test Date
For the first time, students will be able to take the SAT and SAT Subject Tests in August. Taking the exam in the summer is great news for juniors because it allowes them time to meet early application deadlines and focus on classwork as they begin their senior year. Mental Health America of Fredericksburg Teen Support Group
Mental Health America of Fredericksburg is launching their third 8 week Teen Support Group on Saturday, April 29, 2017.
~The first support meeting will be held on Saturday, April 29 at Spotsylvania Regional Hospital from 10-11:30 a.m.
~It is free to attend. No referral is needed.
~The 8 week session will run fro April 29 thru June 24.
~The group will be limited to the first 12 participants who complete and return the registration packet to Mental Health America of Fredericksburg.
~When capacity is reached, names will be placed on a waiting list ( in the order the packets are turned in).
Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Spend the Night Program
VT would like to offer a "Spend the Night" program for interested cadets. Interested students can stay overnight with a cadet, attend monring physical fitness training with our Citizen Leader Track, attention morning formation, and attend a class with a cadet. There is close to a 90% retention rate with students who participate in the Spend the Night program and later enroll. There are nine Spend the Night/Day session for Spring 2017. There are approximately 200 Emerging Leader Scholarships offered to incoming cadets each year. There is no separate application, it is offered to the top cadet applicants every year.
Are you taking a DE class next year?
If you are planning on taking a DE class next year, you will need to take the VPT test. The test will be administered April 25th and 26th, here at Colonial Forge. For more information please see Mrs. Dobson in the counseling office.
2017-18 Registration Begins
The window for registration for next years classes will begin February 6th and close on February 20th, after which no changes can be made. Counselors will be visiting English classrooms the week of February 6-10, 2017 to make sure all students know how to login and select classes. Counselors will also be meeting with individual students to review their selections between February 13th and the end of March to finalize their selections.
CGS Applications for 2017
To apply for the Commonwealth Governor's School (CGS) for the 2017 school year please click on the link. This program is available to rising 9th-12th graders for the 17-18 school year.
Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG) Program

Also, offered is the Virginia Private College Week, July 24-29, 2017 for the Class of 2018. Virginia State University Gaining Real World Opportunities with Students (G.R.O.W.S.) is a summer program for students interested in becoming teachers. During this program all travel and room and board expenses are covered for selected students as part of the program participation. The program is open to upcoming senios. Scam Alert SAT/ACT
Twice in the past two days we have been contacted by parents regarding a phone call they received at home. The caller identifies as a representative from SAT/ACT Scholastic Acheivement, then telling the parent that their student had requested SAT/ACT prep materials and they are calling to confirm information (credit card) before shipping the materials. Please be aware that the College Board/ACT are not connected to this organization and that this is a scam.
Please share this with your students - especially seniors.
SAT Prep Class Registration
The 16-17 SAT Prep class class sign up is now available. The form can be accessed by clicking the link in this message or by picking the form up in guidance. Payments with the completed form need to be paid to Mrs. Redd in guidance. Just a reminder, it is the responsibility of the studetn to sign up on-line for the SAT test, by clicking here. You will need to add the CFHS School Code, 472-144.
The first session was cancelled due to lack of participation. Please be sure to sign up early, so we can ensure the seating.
Attention All Young Men...Do you want to keep your driver's license and be eligible for college loans, job training, government jobs, and citizenship if you're an immigrant?
Then make sure you register with Selective Services within a month of your 18th birthday!
