About the Program

  • Stafford County Public Schools provides Driver Education instruction that meets all Virginia requirements needed to obtain a Virginia driver’s license.

Driver Education is taught through tenth grade Health and Physical Education (HPE) and consists of both classroom instruction and behind the wheel instruction.

Each of our five high schools has licensed Health, Physical Education and Driver Education teachers who are responsible for the classroom instruction program of Driver Education. Each high school also has on staff two certified Behind the Wheel (BTW) instructors who are responsible for the on-road instruction of Driver Education.

Each student is required to complete 36 hours of classroom instruction as well as receive a passing grade for the classroom driver education portion of tenth grade HPE.

Upon completion of classroom driver’s education, students may enroll in a behind the wheel program.  Stafford County Public Schools offers this course during regularly scheduled physical education classes for a fee of $225.  If you participate in the school's free meals or reduced meals program please contact your Building Coordinator for Driver Education.
