Spring sports tryouts begin on April 12th.
Baseball: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 4 pm to 6 pm at the baseball field.
Boys Lacrosse: Monday and Tuesday from 6 pm to 7:30 pm at the field hockey field
Boys Tennis: Monday and Tuesday from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm at the tennis courts
Boys Soccer: Monday from 6 pm to 8 pm at the football stadium; Tuesday from 6 pm to 8 pm at practice field #1
Girls Tennis: Monday and Tuesday from 3:30 pm to 5 pm at the tennis courts
Girls Soccer: Monday and Tuesday from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm at the field hockey fields
Girls Lacrosse: Monday and Tuesday from 4 pm to 6 pm at the upper practice field
Softball: Monday and Tuesday from 4 pm to 6 pm at the softball field
Track & Field tryouts will begin on April 19th from 4 pm to 6 pm at the main stadium
All those who wish to tryout must have a completed VHSL form and a COVID SIGNED CONSENT FORM FROM A PARENT/GUARDIAN.

Tryouts will be held on April 12th and 13th at the Field Hockey field from 3:30-5:30. All those trying out must have a VHSL physical on file. Please bring cleats, running shoes, and water.

Teen Poetry Contest
Posted: Tuesday, March 2, 2021Each year CRRL celebrates National Poetry Month with the Claudia Emerson Teen Poetry Contest.Submissions will open April 1 - April 15. Teens in grades 6-12 from Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, and Westmoreland, and out-of-region library cardholders, are invited to submit their original poetry, with a maximum of two entries per person. The submission form will be available beginning April 1 on the CRRL website, here: https://www.
librarypoint.org/teen-poetry- contest/Winners will be selected from participants in two categories - grades 6-8 and grades 9-12 - and will be chosen anonymously by faculty from the University of Mary Washington. Winners and honorees will be invited to video record themselves reading their work.

The All-District Symphonic Band is the top group, and the Concert Band is the 2nd group. 1st Chair means that students placed 1st overall other auditionees on that instrument. All-VA Eligible means that students will be able to audition for All-State Band later this month! Congratulations to all!

Required Meeting for Behind the Wheel Now Virtual

If a student plans to take the Behind the Wheel through Stafford County Public Schools or through a private driving company, the parent and student must attend this Partners for Safe Teen Drivers meeting. In order to be eligible for Behind the Wheel, students must have a valid Virginia's learners permit, passed classroom driver education, and attended the Parent-Teen Driver Meeting. A student will not be allowed to register for Behind the Wheel training without meeting all requirements. Stafford County Public Schools are committed to working with parents to keep our students safe and reduce teen crashes.
When attending virtually the student will need to select "login" at the top right of the page in order to have access to all course content and quizzes. At the end of the course, students will be prompted to fill out a google form for attendance. Students will also be emailed a certificate of completion.

National Math Honor Society: Mu Alpha Theta Now Accepting Applications

All students taking Algebra II and higher and have a B average in all math classes are eligible to apply. Math Honor Society Member Application. Applications are due by October 9, 2020!
Meetings are every 3rd Thursday at 3:05. Use the Google Meet nickname SHSMathNationalHonor. You do not have to be an official member to attend meetings. Next Meeting is October 15, 2020.
Guidelines for Releasing Students to Emergency Contacts

The emergency contact cannot simply show up at the school and pick up a student.
- The parent has notified the school that they are coming to get them, either by phone or note;
- The school has tried to contact the parents/guardians due to an emergency (e.g. child is sick ) and the parent/guardian is unreachable, then the emergency contacts would be called.

Next week Senior Portraits begin. You should have received a postcard from Lifetouch Prestige Portraits with your unique student ID number to schedule your appointment on their website PrestigePortraits.com. If you didn't get a postcard you can contact them to get an ID number at 1-800-445-1189 or email them at Answers@Lifetouch.com
You can purchase your senior pictures through Lifetouch or just get a picture taken for the Yearbook/ student ID card at no cost. Please make your online appointment ASAP though. You previously received an email from Mrs.Arney about how to submit your own portrait for the yearbook. There are strict requirements for your submission, please follow her instructions. Contact Mrs. Arney if you have any questions.
There is a $40 cost for senior dues this year. This cost is associated with graduation. It will cover the cost of your cap, gown, tassel, diploma, diploma cover, and costs for graduation. You can pay online through the parent online payment portal on the SHS website. If you have a financial hardship you may contact the school to seek a fee waiver.
Cap, Gown, and Announcements for Graduation!!!!
All ordering of cap, gown and announcements will be done online. You can go to Jostens website and begin ordering your items now. Any package deal that Jostens offers comes with a cap and gown BUT the price does not charge for a cap and gown since your senior dues pays that cost. The package price is without the price of a cap and gown. You can order any items you wish from Jostens. If you prefer you can just order a cap and gown and buy no additional products from Jostens. Please order soon as prices for some Jostens products do go up as the year goes on.
Yearbooks and Senior Ads
Our Herff Jones online yearbook order center is now open. Visit www.yearbookordercenter.com to order your 2020-2021 yearbook. Our school code is 4516. Senior ads will be available for design and purchase from October 1st-November 1st (or until space runs out). Ads will be designed and paid for online this year through our Herff Jones order center.
We will have our Senior T-shirt and the pink Spirit shirt this year. I need students to submit original artwork for the Senior t-shirt. PLEASE, we need artwork submitted. Email me your color image (blue, yellow, and black may be used) ASAP. In order for us to have shirts next month we need the designs now. Once t-shirts have been made they will be mailed to your home.
Less than half of you have signed up for the Senior Remind texts. Please sign up so I am able to include you in information. I know you may not always check your school email after school hours, but I can still get information to you.

College Online Visits
There are many colleges that will be participating in virtual meetings over the next couple weeks to discuss their college and answer student questions. PLEASE log onto your Naviance and sign up for these college meetings. SOME of the colleges coming up include: Longwood, VSU, CNU, Radford, and University of Lynchburg. Check the Counseling Center page on the SHS website for more information.
As this week is interim for the 1st rating period please make sure that you are putting effort into your courses, especially those necessary for you to graduate.
