The mission of Stafford County Public Schools is to challenge each student to reach his or her potential and to prepare each student to succeed in society.  Our gifted students are among those students with exceptional needs.  Gifted Education Services at the elementary level provides resource each week to identified gifted students, which allows them the opportunity to hone their higher level thinking skills, creative problem-solving, analysis, and logic.  The Gifted Education Resource Teacher provides enrichment to additional students through annual competitions, collaborative lessons, and extra-curricular clubs, such as Thinking and Games (TAG) for K-2 students, Chess Club for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders and STEM Club for grades 3-5.FOCUS ON EXCELLENCE

  • Referrals for Gifted Services

Students who qualify for the Stafford County Focus Program are those students who are found to be in need of services above and beyond those being provided in the general education classroom.  I am happy to schedule conferences to discuss the referral and identification process for the Focus/gifted program at Widewater Elementary School. The deadline for new referral conferences is March 1.

Word Masters, a national analogies contest, is hosted three times per year for students in grades 3 through 5. Students with the highest scores from each grade level will be recognized at the end of the school year. Wordlists have been given to classroom teachers and can also be found in the Word Master folder on this school Fusion page. The first Word Masters Challenge of the year will be scheduled for December. Word lists will be shared as soon as they are made available.

  • Math Problem-Solving Contest
The third, fourth and fifth grade math problem-solving contests begin in October. These math challenges will be given monthly until April. A six-question test is given each month and scores are recorded. This is a great opportunity for your child to challenge themselves in the area of problem solving.  The top performing students will be recognized at our end-of-the-year assembly.
