Mrs. Denise DeSando
Notice to parents during school closure:
First, and most importantly, I hope you and your children are safe and well. As many of you are aware, direct speech therapy service are currently suspended due to a school closure as a result of a public health crisis. Services will resume once school reopens. Until that time, I'd like to offer some options for you to consider if you are looking for ways to help your child maintain his/her communication skills.
1. Classroom teachers will be providing optional activites your child can access addressing core instruction. If you feel any of those activities need to be modified to accommodate your child's communication needs, please contact me via email for suggestions.
2. A list of optional speech-language activities has been developed by SCPS Speech Pathologists for your use and is posted on my class resource page. Please consider taking a look at some of the links. There's a variety of activities that can be used to address specific areas of concern, but some can be used for fun, language enrichment opportunites for any child.
Annual IEP meetings will continue to take place via phone conferences or Google Hangout. I will be contacting parents to set up those meetings and to get input as IEPs come due.
If you have questions or concerns, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I check email numerous times per day and will answer all questions in a timely fashion (within 24 hours).
Once again...please stay safe and give your child a hug from me!
