Mrs. Hudson

Hello! My name is Mrs. Katrina Hudson. I am very excited to have your child in my third grade classroom! I’d like to start off by telling you a bit about myself. I graduated from the University of Mary Washington with a Bachelor in English and a Masters in Elementary Education. This is my 4th year teaching at Park Ridge Elementary. I love being a part of the Ridge family. Prior to this I have substitute taught in every Elementary grade at a school on Quantico base for two years, was a personal art teacher for four years, head After School Instructor for two years, and a Tae Kwon Do Instructor for 13 years. I taught students ages 4 through adult with various skills and abilities. Teaching has always been a passion of mine!

I was born on a military base in Stuttgart, Germany. We moved to Stafford when I was in third grade. I love traveling the world, especially with my family! My husband is British and enjoys helping in the classroom and bring delicious treats back from England. I have three stepchildren, all boys. Their names are Oliver, Casey, and Jacob. They are 11, 9, and 6 years old.

Our classroom theme is Pagemaster. I have taken the 1994 movie and branched off into a few Fairytale classics. Pagemasteris more than just a theme. It will allow us to explore a variety of text, compare and contrast, and make connections across the curriculum.

I strongly believe that parental involvement is extremely important for a successful classroom. I have always worked in an environment where the parents were there as I taught their child. They were able to see the progress of their child and we were able to talk after class about where improvements could be made. For this reason, I would love to have parents come in and volunteer and contact me with any questions or concerns. I will be available through email if a question or concern ever arises. There will also be a monthly newsletter to keep you informed of upcoming dates. Our class website is a great place to go! The newsletters will be posted there as well as student’s homework. If you ever lose the study guides, they will be attached on our website for you to print.

I am a very out of the box and creative teacher who is enthusiastic about all subjects. At every opportunity I will be teaching using arts-infused instruction. During this, the students will be using a variety of techniques to learn to include hands on activities, kinesthetic movement, singing, drama, music, and visual arts. Doing this we will be accessing the whole child; their emotional, social, and educational aspects, building self-confidence, spatial-temporal thinking, communication, critical thinking, and collaboration. These techniques have proven to be a natural bridge for students of all abilities. We are going to have a lot of fun this year as we learn about Ancient Civilizations, the continents, multiplication, fractions, and so much more. I will do everything in my power to help your child succeed. I have high expectations of all my students and expect the best from them. I believe in every one of my students and together we will be able to have a terrific year! It’s going to be a great year full of learning, laughter, fun, and new adventures. I am thrilled to be your teacher and I can’t wait to learn all I can about you!

Love,

Mrs. Hudson
