Dear Parents & Legal Guardians:
I am very pleased to have your son/daughter enrolled in our Business/Marketing Cooperative Education (COE) program for the 2016/17 school year. I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce a few of the program basics, in order to familiarize you with both our instructional and workplace goals. Your child will receive a separate grade for the enrolled business or marketing course, as well as my COE course. The classroom grade is based upon the teacher's normal class parameters and can be found in the course syllabus. The COE grade is my assessment that is forwarded to the business/marketing class teacher. COE assessment is based on employer evaluation, attaining training plan goals, attendance, discipline issues, & completion of all paperwork in a timely manner. Examples of criteria for COE grades are: attending COE meetings, daily log ins, submitting completed time sheets/evaluation forms on time, on-site observations, obtaining proper number of work hours, and meeting training plan goals. Upon successful completion of all program requirements, the student receives a weighted letter grade for the business class, and the COE class, thus reflecting two (2) credits on his/her diploma. Business students are encouraged to become a member of FBLA, Future Business Leaders of America, while Marketing students are encouraged to enroll in DECA. These student organizations offer many leadership development activities and provide prospective employers with an opportunity to see dedicated and motivated students excel in a variety of events offered to the members. FBLA & DECA membership dues are $25.00 for the school year. Dues include such opportunities as field trips, community events, district/state competitions, and functions such as breakfasts, pizza parties, and ice cream socials. Please have dues paid during the first two (2) weeks of school. Checks should be made payable to Stafford High School, with a home address and phone number on the check. As the COE Program Coordinator for Stafford High School, I look forward to working with your child during the upcoming school year. I trust you will find everything to be in order, but should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely, Kaye Marie Pennock COE Coordinator/Business Instructor
