Focus Art is the SCPS program for students in grades 6-8 that are identified as gifted in the Visual Arts.
Students participate in small group activities which correspond to their higher skills, creativity, and interest levels. Identified students' need are met in the general art classes by expanding the grade level art objectives to include broader concept development, aesthetic awareness, and higher level thinking skills.
In addition, students can participate in small group activities which correspond to their higher level skills, creativity and interest areas. Guest artists, online challenges and postings, workshops and field trips are scheduled throughout the year with the Focus Art Resource Teacher .
In school meetings can happen 1- 2 times per month and meet during the students elective and P.E. period or block.
Performing arts students that are NOT currently in art can participate in the program once identified for services.
Students needs are met at the high school level by the art courses they plan into their HS curriculum choices.
