Course Description

  • Colonial Forge is a 2019~2020 Virginia Music Educators Association Blue Ribbon Music School

The CFHS Chamber Sinfonia is an advanced-level high school string orchestra class.  Students in the ensemble will have generally five to ten or more years of experience playing a violin, viola, cello or double bass, unless they have special permission to enter the class from the director.  This is a performance-based, auditioned ensemble class and it is expected that students will perform with the ensemble in November, March and May of each year.  Students must gain entry into this class by way of auditioning for the director.  This ensemble performs on an orchestra literature, graded levels 3 - 6.  Special, optional extra performances may include but will not be limited to performing in the community and on travel to various theme parks or performance venues such as New York City, Universal Studios or Disney World, Orlando, Florida.

Students are graded in the following ways:

    • 40% - Classwork
    • 20% - Playing Quizzes
    • 40% - Concert Performances

Please see the CFHS Orchestra Handbook for specifics on grading, performance calendar, performances, dress attire, fundraising, travel, Forge Orchestra Parents Association and Eagle Chamber Ensembles.
