New Credit 2019

  • Registration: Will take place at the Counseling Center of each student’s base high school from April 22 through May 20. The registration form can be found at the bottom of this page. The only exception is registration for Behind the Wheel (BTW). 

    Rising 9th graders wishing to register for a high school new credit should complete the registration document at their current middle school (for counselor and teacher signatures.) Forms and payment should be submitted to the counseling department at their upcoming high school. Payment must be in the form of cash, money order, or cashier's check. 

    Transportation:  Transportation will be provided from each student's base school to one of the summer school locations (see Sites below). 

    NCAA:  Students who may be potential NCAA athletes who wish to enroll in Summer School for NEW/initial credit will begin their course on May 20 and then must physically be present in the learning lab each day beginning June 24 - July 26 for the entire 6.5 hour day.

    Payment: Will be taken at each individual school. If a student is eligible for a fee waiver, please complete the fee waiver form and bring it when you register with your child’s counselor during the registration period. Payment is accepted by money order, cash, or credit cards; personal checks will not be accepted. If you are a rising 9th grader, make payment with your future high school. 

    Refunds will not be given after May 24.  Tuition must be paid in full before the student will be allowed to enter class. Refunds will only be issued by check, even if payment was made a different way. 

    Students from BPHS, MVHS, and NSHS will attend North Stafford. 
    Students from CFHS and SHS will attend the Phoenix Center (University of Mary Washington - Stafford Campus).
    *If a student has a reason to attend a different site and does not need transportation, please check with your counseling office.


    A student can only enroll in one new unit of new credit at a time. No concurrent enrollments are allowed. Some courses may include a required SOL test for students to earn a verified credit. Economics & Personal Finance (EPF) students are required to take the W!SE Financial Literacy Exam to receive credit.

    Students will be required to come in and take cumulative exams.

Driver's Education


    Learning Model

    This model of instruction is almost entirely online. To be accepted into the program, students must be recommended for Virtual Learning by a content teacher and a counselor. Students must take the midterm and final examination in the learning lab. Should a student fail to made adequate daily progress in the virtual learning environment, they will be required to “catch-up” in the learning lab until they are back on pace.


    Requirements for students are as follows:

    • Students are not required to report daily to a classroom for new credit, virtual learning courses
    • Mandatory student/parent orientation on Monday, May 20 at 7:00 pm in the School Board chambers
    • Students are encouraged to attend daily open labs for support and assistance completing the course on time
      • Should a student fail to made adequate daily progress in the virtual learning environment, they will be required to “catch-up” in the learning lab until they are back on pace.
    • Midterm and final examinations must be taken at the summer school site
    • Students are required to bring headphones or earbuds with a wire when utilizing the computer lab
    • Labs are open to students Monday-Thursday from 7:30 am – 1:45 pm, with the exception of July 4 and 5.


    Driver’s Education

    These classes are only for Stafford County students. Behind the Wheel (BTW) classes are based on student enrollment.  See attached flyer for more detailed information regarding BTW.

    Session 2: June 28 - July 10 (no class July 4 & 5)

    Time Slots: 7:00-9:00am, 9:00-11:00am, 11:30am-1:30pm, 1:30-3:30pm

    Locations: North Stafford HS (driving range) and Stafford HS (driving range)

    Reminder - Fall sports begin July 25 for golf and football; all other fall sports begin July 29. 


    Virtual Virginia

    With the prior approval of the principal, high school students can take online courses offered by Virtual Virginia. Students must register with the school counselor from March 13 – June 12. Coursework may be completed at home; students may test in the lab. Students are responsible for the purchase of textbooks that are not available in our schools. In addition, students taking the Economics and Personal Finance online course need to take the W!SE Financial Literacy exam before receiving credit.
