Stafford County Public Schools Water Testing

Pre-Emptive Water Fountain Testing

  • In 2020, water fountains within Stafford School facilities were shut down and sealed due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19. As a result, drinking water sources have been out of service for approximately two years. During that period, bottled water was provided for students, staff, and visitors.

In an effort to return the nonfunctional drinking water sources to use during the 2022-2023 school year, Stafford Schools has worked with industrial hygiene consultants to test for the presence of Legionella. Sampling results revealed the presence of Legionella in a limited number of facility drinking water sources. Stafford Schools is working with industrial hygiene consultants to perform hyper-chlorination of the facilities that warrant additional treatment.

When negative Legionella test results are received, water fountains are opened.
