    Good Evening Parents!

Below you will find all sorts of updates and information about our classroom!  Please read to the end, as there are many important updates!

We’re off to a great start!

We have had a great first two weeks of school! Students are getting settled into our classroom routines, and getting to know their classmates! We have had the chance to talk about being good citizens both at home and at school, as well as how to be a leader at Conway! Students have been reading a TON and working with numbers every day to increase number sense! Thank you for making sure your kiddo has come to school rested, full, and ready to learn!

The homework expectation in first grade is for every student to be reading at home each night! At school we are working on our reading stamina and are working towards independently reading for 20 minutes. We were able to read for 8 minutes without interruptions today! Please read with your child every night! This is the absolute best way for you to support their learning. At this point in the year, reading can be done in many ways, you reading to your child, each of you reading a page, your child reading to you, or your child reading to a pet, stuffed animal, or sibling! Please have your child read for at least 10 minutes a day, and work towards 20 minutes throughout the year! I will be sending books home with your child starting sometime in October. If you are in desperate need of books now, please let me know and I will make sure your child has some! Nightly reading will be recorded in your student’s agenda.

    Behavior Chart

I introduced our classroom behavior chart this week. We practiced with the chart for some of this week and are “going live” next week! Students all start the day on “green” and can “clip up” and “clip down” for their choices during the day. There is fluid movement with the chart, so if your child “clips down” in the AM, I will always be looking for positive choices to get them clipped back up later in the day.  At the end of each day, your child will color their behavior chart color in their agenda calendar so that you are aware of how their week is going! You will see the behavior chart at Back to School Night, but when students clip up, they go to blue, purple, and then pink. When they clip down, they go to yellow, orange, and then red.

I will be sending home Agendas starting this coming week. Agendas will be used for teacher/parent communication. On the month calendar, students will color their behavior chart color for each day. Please check those each night and talk to your child about their choices.  I will do my best to make a note about behavior if necessary.  On the weekly pages, please write how long your child read the night before and sign it. This is a great place to write any notes about your child’s reading. Did they have a hard time? Did they read to you, or did you read with them? If you let me know what book your child read, I am able to help them find other books they like in our classroom library! Thank you for your support!

    Back to School Night

Kindergarten and First Grade Back to School Night is this coming Wednesday, September 19th from 5:00pm-6:30pm in our classroom! (Room 37) This is the night to come and learn all about your student’s classroom! We will talk about what they will be learning this year, and how we do things in room 37! I look forward to seeing you there!

As you know, I will be getting Married on September 22! Your kiddos have been so incredibly sweet and remind me every day how many days left until I get married! I wanted to let you know that I will be taking a honeymoon and will be out of school Friday, September 21- Friday September 28th. Mr. Raybold, Mrs. Bingham, and I have talked and everything is already set for your child to have a flawless week without me! We have an amazing substitute, Kim Dreeke, coming to work with your kids every day. Mrs. Dreeke has subbed here many times before and already knows Conway! Mrs. Burch, our paraprofessional will also be with your kiddos each morning until lunch time. I have already planned and prepared the materials for the time I will be out, and I feel confident that your child will continue to learn, grow, and come to school with a big smile! I will miss their smiles and hugs terribly! I have NOT shared this information with your children yet. I do not want to have them worrying about anything for days before! I plan to share this information with them on Wednesday or Thursday. If you have ANY questions or concerns, please reach out and we can chat!
