Adrianne Aviles-Bouloy, ESOL Welcome Center Coordinator
Our SCPS ESOL Welcome Center Mission:
To ensure that all students that speak a language other than English are identified for the necessary support services through the language assessment test called the WIDA screener. The test is administered at the Welcome Center where families can also receive information regarding community and school resources.
Welcome Center Services for Families:
- Evaluate for English language proficiency using the WIDA screener
- Provide families with information regarding services within the schools and the Stafford County community
- Evaluate foreign transcripts for H.S. level credits
- Provide Parent/Guardians with ESOL program information
Welcome Center Screening Procedures:
During registration at your local school if a language other than English is indicated on the Home Language Survey an appointment will be made for conducting an English language proficiency screening of your student. This screening assesses four areas: reading, writing, speaking and listening. A recommendation for ESOL services will be made based on the student's proficiency screening results. These results are then provided directly to the school and a letter is sent for informing parents/guardians of this recommendation for ESOL services.
