  • Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is a theory used to understand human behavior.  Looking from the bottom up, you'll see it goes from very basic human needs to "self-actualization".  The theory is that if ones basic human needs are not met, one will struggle or not be able to work on the other areas of the pyramid.  One has to have their basic needs met in order to "move on" to the next level of self-improvement and well-being.

  • The Zones of Regulation were created by LEAH KUYPERS, MA ED., OTR/L

Self-Regulation is something everyone works on everyday. We each face situations every day that can test our limits.  How we manage our feelings and get ourselves to a health place is self-regulation.  This is natural for some people, and a challenge for others.  " The Zones is a systematic, cognitive-behavioral approach used to teach self-regulation by categorizing all the different ways we feel and states of alertness we experience into four concrete colored zones.  The Zones framework provides strategies to teach students to become more aware of and independent in controlling their emotions and impulses, manage their sensory needs, and improve their ability to problem solve conflicts".
