Who runs the program?
It is sponsored by THE VIRGINIA STATE READING ASSOCIATION in association with THE VIRGINIA ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL LIBRARIANS, THE VIRGINIA LIBRARY ASSOCIATION & THE LIBRARY OF VIRGINIA YOUTH SERVICES.
What is the purpose of the program?
To encourage young readers to become better acquainted with contemporary books with outstanding literary appeal, to broaden students’ awareness of literature as a life-long pleasure, to encourage reading aloud in classrooms as a means of introducing reading for pleasure, and to honor favorite books and their authors.
A winner will be announced for each level- Primary, Elementary, Middle School, and High School. The winning book will have gathered the highest number of votes in their category. The winners will be announced in the Spring of each year.
How do you participate?
Participation in this reading program is voluntary and fun! Grades 9-12 may vote for their favorite chapter book and/or graphic novel. Students must have read or listened to at least 4 from the same category of the nominated chapter books and/or graphic novels. Voting is online and ballots will be available February 1 through April 30.
