Welcome Military Families!
At Anthony Burns Elementary School (ABES) we are committed to supporting our military families and we seek to help make the transition to our school as smooth as possible. Some of the ways we do this is by offering programs and resources that specifically address the joys and challenges of military life.
This school year the counseling department will offer small group counseling sessions for all new students, including our military connected students. We also have a student ambassador program that serves to welcome new students and help them learn their way around school. The Ambassador’s program, as well as new student groups, serve to help create a warm and inviting environment in which all students feel they are welcome, important, and part of the ABES community.
The counselors are also available throughout the school year to meet with students and families to address any questions or concerns they may have. Throughout the school year we celebrate and recognize the sacrifices and contributions of military families in our Veteran’s Day activities and Purple Up Day. We will post information throughout the school year about our upcoming events.
This school year we are excited to share that ABES has been selected to participate in the Partners in Education Program with Quantico Marine Corps Base. This partnership will help us in supporting our military connected students. Click the link to access more information about the Partners in Education School Liaison Program.
One of our school counselors, Mrs. Lakisha Ireland, is the school-based military student support point of contact for ABES. Mrs. Ireland can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 540-658-6800. Please feel free to contact her with any questions or concerns.
