Military Families: Planning Your Arrival to North Stafford High School

Our school division encourages you to use the Online Registration System to enroll your child. After completing the online portion of registration, you will still need to complete and provide some documents in person to our high school. Please remember not to pack important school documents. Carry them with you to expediate the enrollment process.

Review our school division's immunization requirements that are required for student enrollments.

If you intend to provide home instruction for your child(ren) for the current school year, you are required to complete our school division's Notice of Intent to Provide Home Instruction, indicate the option under which you wish to be recognized, and provide requested material along with a descripiton of the curriculum.
Preparing Your Move

To prepare for your move to our locality and high school, review A Military Family's Guide to School Transitions. This guide will assist in transitioning your child(ren) to our new high school. In addition, our high school has a school counselor that is the designated point of contact for military families. Sonya Smith coordinates student events for our military students throughout the school year. You can reach out to Sonya Smith at (540) 658-6150, or smithsp@staffordschools.net.
In addition, you can also utilize the Marine Corps Community Services Quantico (MCCS) School Liaison Program. Their services assist with coordinating community resources for military families that impact the lifestyle of school-aged children.

Graduation Requirements
Review our school division's graduation requirements. Students entering our high school must meet the graduation requirements for one of four diploma types:
- Advanced Studies Diploma - 26 Credits
- Standard Diploma - 22 Credits
- Special Diploma
Students can choose from a variety of courses from our Program of Studies.

Review information regarding special education in our school division. Our high school provides programs, services, and supports for students with special needs. School Supported Military Events and Activities

We Care - Military Support Group
This event is held the first Wednesday of each month from 7:15 AM-7:35 AM in the Jackie Robinson Room, located in the library. The group supports our military students and allows students to come up with topics that concern them as they transition to life in our high school. Both new and veteran students are welcome to attend for meet-and-greet sessions with a counselor guiding conversations to help our military students become more successful.

This is a free service provided by the Department of Defense (DoD) that provides comprehensive information regarding aspects of military life to include deployment, reunion, relationships, grief, spouse employment and education, parenting and child care, and more.

Military Families for High Standards
Military Standards for High Standards advocates for high academic standards in K-12 education. Military families often move frequently throughout a child's K-12 education experience. This can lead to military children having to get caught up or relearn material that they have been previously taught.

Funded by the Department of Defense (DoD) and Coast Guard Mutual Assistance, this service provides on-demand tutoring and homework help at no cost for eligible service members and their dependents. This service includes live, expert tutors available 24/7.
