    Thank you for visiting my page! I hope you'll find it useful in navigating helpful tips for emotional and behavioral concerns as well as linking to community resources.

    I obtained my Bachelor’s in Social Work from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina and my Master’s in Social Work from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.  I then went on to obtain a licence as a Clinical Social Worker and certification as a Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional.   

    WHAT DOES A SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER DO?

    *Participate in Student Education Committee (SEC) meetings

    *Participate in Special Education Assessment meetings as well as Individual Education Plan (IEP) Meetings

    *Prepare a social history report (bio-psycho-social) for a child who is being considered for certain special education services

    *Assist in Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavioral Intervention Plans

    *Provide IEP counseling, when needed and appropriate, for a child who is experiencing a barrier to accessing their education

    *Provide crisis intervention

    *Assist teachers and staff in developing intervention strategies to increase academic success

    *Provide direct support to the self-contained classes, especially the Emotional-Behavioral Support classrooms

    *Assist parents in accessing community resources. To include: out-patient counseling providers, psychiatrists, DSS services, food pantries, shelters, and other community resources.  

    *Assist families in connecting with community agencies such as Court Services Unit, Department of Social Services, and the Rappahannock Area Community Services Board

    *Identify and report child abuse and neglect

    *Advocate for needs of students

    *Assist staff and families in understanding mental health needs and diagnoses
