Eligibility Overview

Who is eligible for tuition or other continuing education expenses?
All contracted staff (licensed and service)—excluding those currently enrolled in the student loan repayment program—are eligible for tuition or other continuing education expenses to be reimbursed up to $1,500 per year.

Reimbursement will be distributed at $750 per course.

Once the maximum amount of $1,500 has been reached for the year, no other funds may be requested until the next school year.

What if a staff member is enrolled in a program leading to certification in high need shortage areas?
Staff enrolled in programs leading to certification in high need shortage areas are eligible for up to $2,500 per year in reimbursed expenses; this includes any program resulting in certification in the following areas:

Any area listed on the state's Critical Shortage Area list for the current school year or the school year in which the staff member enrolled in the program.

Reimbursement will be distributed at $1,250 per course.

Once the maximum amount of $2,500 has been reached for the year, no other funds may be requested until the next school year.

What type of reimbursement can licensed staff receive?
Licensed staff may seek reimbursement for a broader range of eligible expenses, including:

Any graduate program leading to certification in a new licensure area, including school administration.

Expenses related to National Board certification.
-
Any graduate coursework or continuing education approved by their administrator as part of an overall professional growth plan.

Administrators are encouraged to use tuition reimbursement as part of succession planning within their school or department.

Process for Seeking Reimbursement

Employees must submit a request for reimbursement to Human Resources. Requests will be approved in the order received; staff are encouraged to submit requests as early as possible. Proof of successful completion and proof of payment for the Coursework/Praxis/Certification must be submitted before payment is processed.
