Stafford County Substitute Institute

Stafford County Substitute Institute (SCSI)

  • Stafford County Public Schools values continued learning for all staff. To provide continued growth and professional development for our Substitute Teachers, we are proud to offer all Substitute Teachers the opportunity to attend the Stafford County Substitute Institute (SCSI). This new training institute builds on the foundation provided by our previous program, Daily Substitute Institute (DSI), and expands its availability to all Substitute Teachers who are interested in professional development opportunities.

SCSI offers three levels of training:

    • Level One is available for Daily Building Substitutes and As Needed Substitutes. SCSI Level One covers:
      • Ways to build a personal relationship with each student
      • Becoming more culturally skilled in your practice
      • Understanding the importance of expectations and a growth mindset in the success of all learners; and
      • Moves to use to get students to pay attention and manage student behaviors
    • Level Two is available for Daily Building Substitutes and As Needed Substitutes who have already completed Level One. Level Two is a more in-depth application of the strategies learned in Level One:
      • Addressing behavioral disruptions while building responsibility and ownership
      • Engaging with special populations (special education, English language learners, and gifted)
      • Communication, connecting with staff, and providing classroom feedback

To honor the differences in the assignments of our substitutes, each training session will offer one class specifically for Daily Building Substitutes and one for As Needed Substitutes.
