Mrs. Julie Allen

My Name is Julie Allen.  I was born and raised in Warren, Pennsylvania (a cute little town way up in the corner of northwest Pennsylvania).  I went to college at Mercyhurst in Erie, PA where I recieved my degree in early childhood/elementary education.  After I graduated, I moved to Virginia and taught both fourth and second grade at Salem Elementary in Spotsylvania Virginia.  During that time, I married my wonderful husband (Dan Allen).  After six years of teaching at Salem, the Marine Corps relocated us to the Harrisburg area of Pennsylvania.  At Penn State Harrisuburg, I completed my master's degree in Curriculum and Design along with certification as a reading specialist.  The Marine Corps then moved us to California where my two greatest joys were son, Ben and my daughter, Kylie.  After four years in California, the Marine Corps moved us back to Virginia.  At that time, I decided to stay home with my children instead of teach.  They attended Ferry Farm Elementary, and I loved being involved with the PTA and all their activities.   When the time came for me to return to teaching, I started has a part-time para at Ferry Farm when the PALS program first came out.  I was then asked to take over a first grade position (at Ferry Farm) and proudly taught first grade for 13 years.  Three years ago, Mr. Freeman asked me to teach kindergarten which I'm am even more proud to teach.  In all, I stayed home with my children for 13 years, and I am starting my 23rd year of teaching.

I'm known as the teacher who loves dogs.  My dog theme started with our first dog, Carmel. My students loved hearing about all her puppy adventures.  She was a joy to our family and we had her in our lives for 12 years.  Our dog now is Zoey.  She is really our daughter's dog......but you we claim her too; although, I have to be grammy to this dog.  You'll hear a lot about Zoey.  She is so, so sweet and full of love.

I'm extrememly passionate about many things, but mostly importantly about teaching.  I was raised to work hard and to pour your heart and soul into what is important, and that is exactly what I try to do with my students.  I understand how difficult it is to release your children to a person that you barely know, but please rest assured that I will take care of your children as if they are my own.
