Our Commitment to Safe Drinking Water
Stafford Schools is committed to providing students, staff, and families with safe and clean drinking water. In compliance with Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and EPA standards, we maintain a comprehensive Water Management Plan, conduct regular water testing and report results transparently.
Water Testing Program
Our staff conducts routine testing of drinking water at all school facilities for the following contaminants:
• Lead
• Copper
• Legionella
Hartwood Elementary School is served by a well system classified as a public water system. It undergoes more comprehensive testing for:
• Lead and Copper
• Bacteria (e.g., coliforms)
• PFAS and other emerging contaminants
• Nitrates, chlorine, and pH levels
All testing is performed by VDH-certified laboratories.
Annual testing is conducted at all schools, with additional testing as needed.
State & Federal Compliance Information
Our district works closely with the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (ODW) to ensure compliance and rapid response to any exceedances.
