Indoor Air Quality Program

At Stafford County Public Schools, we are committed to providing a safe, healthy, and comfortable learning environment for all students, staff, and visitors. One of the most important factors contributing to a healthy school environment is indoor air quality (IAQ). Good air quality supports student concentration, reduces the risk of illness, and promotes overall well-being. Our Indoor Air Quality Program is designed to monitor, maintain, and continuously improve the air quality in all school facilities across the division.

Our approach to managing indoor air quality is comprehensive and proactive. The program includes regular monitoring of key indicators such as carbon dioxide (CO₂), particulate matter (PM2.5), humidity, temperature, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These metrics help us evaluate ventilation effectiveness, identify potential concerns, and guide any needed improvements. In addition to air quality testing, our Operations and Maintenance team ensures that HVAC systems across the division are operating efficiently and that air filters are replaced on a scheduled basis using industry-standard materials.

We take all concerns seriously and have a clear process in place to respond. When an air quality issue is reported, it is promptly investigated by qualified personnel. Depending on the findings, actions may include deep cleaning, system adjustments, increased ventilation, or other remediation steps. We follow up as needed to ensure the issue has been resolved and conditions have improved.

Transparency is also a key part of our program. We are committed to openly sharing air quality testing, results, and remediation updates with the community. Our work aligns with guidance from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and local health departments.
