Program Description

Turning Point is a voluntary part-time high school diploma program designed to meet the needs of Stafford County seniors in a non-traditional environment. This program is independently paced and is teacher-led.  Students must attend class in person at the Phoenix Center and provide their own transportation. The characteristics of a successful student include intrinsic motivation, the ability to work independently, and the ability to self-advocate.

Students interested in the program must complete a meeting with their high school counselor to review eligibility requirements. 

Please Note: Due to part-time enrollment, students cannot participate in any VHSL sanctioned activities/competitions and may not be eligible to qualify for certain Social Security Benefits that require full-time high school enrollment.

Hours of Attendance

The Turning Point Program offers two sessions.  Based on availability at the time of enrollment, students may choose to attend either the AM or PM session.

AM Session: 8:30am - 11:00am

PM Session: 11:30am - 2:00pm

Program Description

The Individual Student Alternative Education Plan (ISAEP) program is designed for students who are at least 16 years of age and enrolled in high school programs who are having difficulty finding success in a regular classroom environment. Stafford County's ISAEP program is funded through a combination of state grants and local funds, and serves students through a GED Prep program. The student/family must provide their own transportation to attend the program and test sites.

Hours of Attendance

Stafford County's ISAEP/GED Prep Program is a hybrid model that includes a required 9 hours of in-person attendance as well as an additional six hours per week of coursework or work related activities. The schedule of the required in-person hours is Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00am until 12:00pm.

Cost

The Phoenix Center for Innovative Learning covers the cost of all pre-test exams as well as the first attempt on all four GED subject exams for eligible Stafford County Public Schools students.  Should a student require a retest on a GED subject exam, the $10 fee will be the responsibility of the student or parent/guardian.

This program includes an online curriculum and offers a non-traditional learning environment outside regular school hours. Students must attend class in person at one of the program sites and provide their own transportation. The characteristics of a successful student include intrinsic motivation, the ability to work independently, and the ability to self-advocate.

Location and Hours of Attendance

The Evening Program has two sites for attendance.  Students may choose which location they would like to enroll. 

North Stafford High School: Monday and Wednesday from 6:00pm - 8:30pm

Phoenix Center for Innovative Learning: Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00pm - 8:30pm

Program Description 

The school divisions within Planning District 16 have created a regional program at The Phoenix Center so that students who are at risk of long-term suspension, have been long-term suspended or expelled from school, or have pending exclusionary charges through court services can be offered educational services.  The program provides short-term educational opportunities for referred students from Stafford, Caroline, King George, and Spotsylvania Counties and the City of Fredericksburg, The program provides instruction in the four academic areas, as well as a variety of electives.  Transportation is provided from the referring school district.

Hours of Attendance

The program hours are 7:30 AM -12:30 PM. Please note, the program follows the Stafford County Schools calendar.

Note: While your student is attending the Regional Program, students are not allowed on any other school property except under extenuating circumstances when pre-approved by administration.

The Middle School Program provides short-term educational opportunities for Stafford County students in grades 6th-8th, who have been long-term suspended or expelled from school. The program provides instruction in the four core academic areas. Transportation is provided from the student's regular bus stop.

• Turning Point Program: AM Session:10:30am - 12pm; PM Session: 12:30pm - 2:00pm

• Evening Program: Normal hours of attendance.
• Regional: 9:30am - 12:30pm
• Middle School: 9:30am - 12:30pm

2-Hour Early Release

*Please Note: If Stafford County Public Schools cancels after-school or evening activities, there will be no in-person Evening Program classes.
