Stafford Schools provides "other post-employment benefits" (OPEB) in the form of medical benefits for eligible retirees. In September 2008, the school board adopted a resolution and a joinder agreement to begin participating in the Virginia Pooled OPEB Trust Fund ("Trust Fund"). This Trust Fund serves to accumulate and invest assets to fund the post-employment benefits.
Pursuant to Section 15.2-1547 of the Code of Virginia, an OPEB Trust local finance board was formed by the School Board of Stafford County to fulfill the school division's trustee responsibilities in overseeing its OPEB investments.
