Mental Health Resources
Stafford County Public Schools is committed to supporting the mental health and wellness of all students and staff. As shared in our strategic framework, we prioritize the wellbeing of our stakeholders by providing a variety of resources and programs. Each school has a school counseling department along with an assigned school psychologist and social worker to provide assistance for our students.
As part of our commitment to strengthening the mental health and emotional well-being of our students, we have partnered with The Jed Foundation (JED) and The School Superintendents Association's (AASA) in the District Comprehensive Approach (DCA). The DCA will provide the district with an evidence-based framework combined with expert support, best practices, and data-driven guidance to ensure existing systems support the mental health, and reduce suicide risk, for all students at every grade level. Derived from JED’s Comprehensive Approach to Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention for High Schools, this collaboration establishes a new framework and exemplifies the significance school district leaders are placing on their students’ emotional health.
The school district is participating in the JED High School program to develop a customized strategic plan to build on existing strengths, and implement tools, strategies, and techniques that lead to measurable improvements in student mental health and a more connected community in all five high schools and the Phoenix Center. JED will provide ongoing advising, guidance, and technical assistance support through a dedicated JED School Mental Health Specialist.
