FERRY FARM STUDENT COUNCIL
Ferry Farm's Student Council has been active for the last 19 years. Our goal is to promote leadership by providing our students the opportunity to improve their school and their community. They learn how to effectively communicate with those in authority and collaborate with their peers. They use critical thinking to come up with ways to improve the school and help their community through community service projects. They are also responsible to decide how to raise the money to finance their plans. We expect them to display good citizenship at all times because of their leadership role. They use their creativity when advertising and promoting their projects. Council members also gain confidence in public speaking through the election process and by reporting back to their classrooms and in the younger student's classrooms.
Our school collected 60 pounds of pop tops. We received $30 from the recycling center which we donated to the Salvation Army for their Friday Night Food and Fun summer program. The Salvation Army wrote the following: Please tell the students and the teachers at Ferry Farm that The Salvation Army is so thankful for their support of our Friday Night Food and Fun summer program! Every Friday night from now until August 18, we invite families to come to our building in downtown Fredericksburg for a family fun activity, a meal, and to take home some produce and kid-friendly food. Anyone is welcome, but we particularly encourage families that would normally receive free lunch during the school year. The money the kids raised will help us to purchase supplies for the programs, food for the meals, or fresh produce from the farmers' market. Over the past few years we've done some fun things like - had a martial arts demonstration, had a park ranger come in with some critters, took a tour of the battlefield, had a board game competition, an end of summer carnival, science experiments, and even a luau! Thank you again for supporting The Salvation Army and our programs.
Our Eagle Mascot finally has a name. Our school voted and came up with the name Freedom.
Thank you Ferry Farm Families!!! You are truly amazing! We collected 804 boxes of cereal for the Fredericksburg Food Bank. We would love to give ice cream parties to every single class for their outstanding effort. However, we can't so we are giving the top two classes ice cream parties. The winning classes are Mrs. Whited with a total of 119 boxes and Ms. Boelte with 80 boxes. Thank you again for your generosity.
