    Welcome to the RTMS Jaguars Field Hockey page!

    Tryouts for the 23-24 Jaguars Field Hockey team will begin on Monday, August 14, 2023. Girls in grades 6, 7, and 8 may try out for the team. Prior experience is not required. All athletes must have an up-to-date VHSL physical (dated May 1, 2023 or later) on file with the school in order to participate in tryouts for any 2023-2024 RTMS sports team.

    Athletes must bring the following in order to try out:

    Mouthguard (CANNOT PLAY WITHOUT THIS!!!)

    Shin guards - must be field hockey shin guards; soccer shin guards do not offer enough protection

    Weather-appropriate athletic clothing

    Cleats if you have them or good athletic sneakers (not slip ons, Converse, etc.); I recommend waiting until the team has been selected before investing in a pair of cleats. If you already have cleats, please also bring sneakers in case the weather forces us to move tryouts indoors. 

    Water bottle (16oz or larger) - It can get very hot in the afternoons and we run a lot! We do not have a water fountain or water coolers down on the field.

    A hair tie to keep long hair off the face.

    Field hockey stick (if you already have one); we have sticks available to borrow if you do not have your own.  If you have never played before, I recommend borrowing a stick until the team is selected and you are sure that you will continue to play. 

    Goggles are optional but strongly recommended for safety. Again, hold off on purchasing until the team has been selected. If worn, goggles must be permanently labeled with the ASTM 2713 standard for field hockey.

  • The field hockey team will NOT practice on Wednesday, 10/6/21 due to the weather. We will practice tomorrow!

  • Field hockey pictures (team and individual) will be taken at school on Monday, 9/30. Order forms were distributed to athletes and parents at the game on 9/25, but you can also pre-register online at the link below. Late payments/orders will not be accepted so pre-register and buy online or have your order form and payment ready on picture day! Athletes should wear WHITE SOCKS for the team photo.

  • The field hockey game scheduled for today, 9/11/19, has been cancelled due to the weather. We will not practice today. I will let everyone know when the game has been rescheduled.
