The Library is an integral part of the school.  The major goal is the development of an inquiring mind and love of knowledge in each patron.  Its aim is the enrichment and broadening of the student's learning experiences by offering the right material at the right time. The BPHS Library faculty welcomes each patron and encourages use not only for research, but also for listening, viewing and recreational reading. We want all Black-Hawks to become lifelong readers.

Hours:  The Library is open from 7:20 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, (Learning Lab from 2:30-4:00 p.m, M-Th is available in Room 226). Please note, the library will sometimes be closed after school for various meetings or events. Students are always welcome to browse for the perfect book to read, use the many resources for research, or to use the library before or after school for studying or relaxation. Visiting the library before or after school does not require a pass from the attendance office, however, using the Library during the school day requires a pass from your teacher.

    Dear Black-Hawks,

Along with all other SCPS educators, we are working hard to devise new ways to support you during this time of school closure. In the meantime, we wanted to encourage everyone to use the digital resources provided by the Central Regional Rapphannock Library.  You may still access the e-books and audio books in the BPHS Library Collection by using the Destiny Catalog. Remember to log in to Destiny with your Novell account username and password (not your Google account) to access these resources. See the separate announcement about our audio books. In addition to Brooke's digital resources, with a public library card, you will have access to a wide range of resources such as e-books, audio books, databases, language learning applications, e-magazines, and more through the public library. The public library branches are closed for physical book checkout, but you can still obtain a library card and access all their digital resources and services.

If you do not have a public library card, you may obtain one online at no charge.  Go to librarypoint.org/card

  • Do you enjoy a challenge?  If you said "yes," then the library has a great deal for you!  The VRC Challenge features the ten titles that make up the Virginia Readers' Choice list published by the Virginia State Reading Association. The library is challenging students to read a certain number of these titles. Read two of the books by January, and you will receive an invitation to Cookies and Cocoa in the library. Read five by April, and receive an invitation to hang out with your librarians over lunch...wait, it gets even better. You can hang out with your librarians AND receive a pizza lunch. That's right! April will bring our Pizza Palooza! Just read five books out of the ten, and you are in.  You did need to fill out a Google form for each book you complete.  Just fill out the form and we will keep track of the number of titles you've read. Hope to see you for both Cookies and Cocoa and the Pizza Palooza. See Mrs. Ryan or Mrs. Hagermann in the library for more details.
