• ABES School-wide Discipline Plan
    Relevant, Realistic, Respectful

    Responsive Classroom

At Anthony Burns ES we believe in educating the whole child, and keeping a positive and safe learning environment for all of our students. We believe that all children can learn, and look forward to working with your child every day. To meet the needs of all of our students, and to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for all we will use a school wide discipline plan when handling any misbehavior.

All classroom teachers will have a management plan specific to their classroom. We encourage you to be familiar with each teachers policy, please take a moment to speak with the teacher, or review the plan on their school fusion website.
As a school we will utilize logical consequences (break it/fix it, loss of privilege) to deal with students misbehavior.
We believe that any misbehavior is a learning opportunity for students to correct the behavior, and learn to make a better choice in the future.
Each teacher will have a “take a break” space in the classroom. If a students behavior is becoming disruptive, or they need a reset, the student will be given the opportunity to “take a break” in the classroom. This allows the student the chance to calm down, refocus, and get back to learning.

Should a students behavior continue and require additional intervention beyond the classroom teacher, the following steps will be taken:

Teachers will each pair with another teacher to offer students a “rest stop” if needed. If a students behavior is becoming disruptive to others learning environment the student may be sent to the “rest stop” for a period of no more than ten minutes to calm down, refocus, and get back to learning. If a student needs to take a “rest stop”, parents will be contacted by the classroom teacher.

Any student in violation of the Student Code of Conduct, as outlined by Stafford County Public School, is subject to administrative action. Students who violate the code of conduct will receive a Students Action report, and subject to additional disciplinary action.
