Mrs. Denise DeSando
Notice to parents during school closure:
First, and most importantly, I hope you and your children are safe. As many of you are aware, direct speech therapy service are currently suspended due to a school closure as a result of a public health crisis. Services will resume once school reopens. Until that time, I'd like to offer some options for you to consider if you are looking for ways to help your child maintain his/her communication skills.
1. I will be available for "office hours", Monday-Friday from 2:00-3:00, via e-mail to answer questions or concerns. You can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please know I check my e-mail numerous times per day and will answer all quesitons in a timely fashion, but that will be a dedicated time I'll be available if you would like an immediate response.
2. Classroom teachers will be providing optional activites your child can access addressing core instruction. If you feel any of those activities need to be modified to accommodate your child's communication needs, please contact me via email for suggestions.
3. A list of optional speech-language activities is being developed by SCPS Speech Pathologists. That list should be availalbe to post on my classroom resources page by 4/6/2020. If you need help choosing or modifying activities to address your child's need, please email me for assistance.
Annual IEP meetings will continue to take place via phone conferences or Google Hangout. I will be contacting parents to set up those meetings and to get input as IEPs come due.
Once again...please stay safe and give your child a hug from me!
