Our class has embraced the school motto, "Strong Minds, Strong Hearts, Strong Effort" and we are showing all three this year!  I want all of our students to develop a growth mindset, which means knowing that if we work hard (strong effort), and we help each other (strong hearts), we can all "grow our brains" (strong minds).  To help reach this goal, our students think and talk not only about WHAT they are learning, but about HOW they are learning it and what they can do if they need help.  We don't talk about "mistakes" - we talk about how students are learning and growing in their thinking.  I firmly believe that all students can succeed, and I try very hard to create a classroom environment in which students feel safe, valued, and supported.  I welcome communication with parents, so if you ever have any questions or concerns, just email me or call the school.

Throughout this year, our class will integrate C5W (which stands for Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity, Citizenship, and Wellness) into our academic and social actions.  These are the skills and abilities identified in the strategic plan for Stafford County Public Schools.  The goal is for all SCPS graduates to have and use these skills in order to succeed in further education, work and citizenship.  In our classroom, as in all SCPS classrooms, we are building not just 21st-century learners, but ALL-century learners.  We will be using problem-based learning, STEM (which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) tasks, and Google Classroom resources to help students learn to analyze issues, solve problems, create, and reflect on their learning.

We have blocks dedicated to language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies as well as time built in for encore classes, recess, and lunch.  Expect lots of reading, writing, and mathematical FUN during this year as our students prepare to make the jump to third grade.
