You are doing amazing! You should be proud of yourselves for what you have accomplished these last few weeks. Many of you have thrived during this time and some of you have had challenges within this environment and both of those reactions are OKAY! We know that teachers, students and families are overwhelmed, you all have had to learn a ton of new ways of doing things. Everyone is making their best effort to work hard and come together to overcome the challenges.Taking care of yourself is essential to be at our best. Remember to take time away from your screens, get active, do something that brings you joy or helps you relax as forms of self care. As your Counseling Team we are here for you to celebrate the great things you are accomplishing and to support you when you are feeling sad, anxious and overwhelmed. We certainly miss seeing your faces come into the Mustang Counseling Center, but we are finding new ways to meet you and talk with you. We are working on our own Google Classroom page where we will provide various resources for you to access as needed and we will share this with you soon. Each of us have set up counselor office hours from 3-3:30 pm every day that we are in school. If you want to set up a more specific time or individual meeting we can arrange time in the morning hours between 8-10 am. You can send us an email or contact us using the Student or Parent/Teacher Referral forms below to set up an individual meeting. We look forward to talking with you soon and having a great year!

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
We wanted to share these Suicide Prevention Resources if you should need more information and support during this time. We wanted to acknowledge and bring awareness to this topic. People are more isolated, anxious and lonely than ever before, mental health concerns are rising and it's so important to make sure that we seek professional help if we need it.
Everyone struggles with emotional pain at some point in their lives. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to know when someone is suffering and needs help. Some people struggling may find it too difficult to talk or ask for help. People who are suffering in silence often have feelings of shame, isolation and hopelessness. This can lead to thoughts about suicide.
Most people thinking about suicide show some signs that they need help. When you learn to recognize the signs and how to start a conversation you can be there when it matters most. Suicide is preventable!
H.H. Poole Middle School is in its second year using the Recognize, Talk, Act Program. If you would like more information, please contact Melissa Rinker, School Social Worker at firstname.lastname@example.org .

The mission of the H.H. Poole Middle School Counseling Department is to provide a proactive, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate program to address students' academic and career goals in addition to supporting their personal and social needs.
The Role of the School Counselor
Parents, the press, administrators and the general public often wonder just what it is that school counselors do on a daily basis. Gone are the days of school counselors sitting in their office simply handing out college applications, making schedule changes for students who want to drop a class or waiting for a crisis to occur. Today's school counselors are vital members of the education team. They help all students in the areas of academic achievement, career and social/emotional development, ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow.
