Welcome to Stafford Middle School's Counseling Center
We Miss Our Spartans!
While online learning is not the same as face to face learning, we want to make sure you have access to all the resources that are available to your family. All students have been invited by email to our very own SMS Virtual Google Classroom (the access code was sent to your student email). For the remainder of the school year in our Google Classroom, we are continuing to focus on our weekly Character Education lessons, including short videos and discussion questions on relevant topics such as connecting with others, using positive self-talk, health and wellness, and more.
So much has happened in the past few weeks, taking a lot of us by surprise. We truly hope you are taking this time to focus on your health and well-being. We realize this new way of life has created an increased level of stress and anxiety for some students. As your school counselors, we want you to know that we are still available to support you through email and by phone (when necessary). We will continue posting information and wellness tips on our page, in our Google Classroom and on our twitter account: @WeCounselSMS.

What Do Middle School Counselors Do?
School counseling programs are essential for students to achieve optimal personal growth, acquire positive social skills and values, set informed career goals and realize full academic potential to become productive, contributing members of the world community. Middle school counselors have an impact on these years by implementing a school counseling program and collaborating with school staff, parents and the community to create a safe, respectful learning environment whereby young adolescents can maximize personal and academic achievement.
The professional school counselor is a certified/licensed educator trained in school counseling with unique qualifications and skills to address all students’ academic, personal/social, and career development needs. Professional school counselors implement a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes and enhances student achievement." (ASCA, The Role of the Professional School Counselor).
The role of the middle school counselor is to provide support and enhance student learning by:
- Serving as an advocate for the student
- Promoting student academic success
- Collaborating with parents, teachers, administrators, and community resources
- Assisting students with transition
- Providing information and support for transfer students
- Planning academic and career pathways
- Promoting a positive learning environment
