Why do we do what we do?
To build a positive classroom community in which students feel safe, successful, loved, respected, and happy so that they can be life long learners with a strong foundation of skills. As we learn how to navigate this new reality that we are facing, please know that we are in this together. Don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions or concerns regarding your child's learning. Please know that we are working as a team to provide you with meaningful activities to help you and your child continue the learning experience. I miss you all terribly and can't wait until we can see each other again!
You should have received an email regarding the first grade learning activities that became available on Monday, April 6th. The activities are available under the class resoources tab on this webpage or via the Google Classroom First Grade page. If you are having difficulty accessing the materials, please let me know. Please remember that these activities are optional and will not be graded, but are highly encouraged. Don't forget to get started on Lexia and use the other programs available through Clever.com. The first grade teachers have issued a challenge to see which class can get the most participation! I know that this is can be very overwhelming. I am always available via email if your have any questions or concerns. Good luck and have fun!
Report cards will be available on ParentVue after March 31st. If you need a digital or hard copy of the report card, please let me know via email.
There are many wonderful computer programs and apps that we were using in the classroom. These programs can also be accessed from home. The best way to get to these programs is to login to Clever.com. Students will need to log in using their information (remind them that it is what they used to login to the school laptops). If your child does not know his/her login, shooot me an email and I will send it out to you. There are several programs listed under our class page, as well as several others on the school wide page.
These are a couple of websites to practice reading: Raz-Kids (allows for practicing listening, reaading, and reading comprehenion), Squiggle Park (which focuses on phonics and spelling patterns), and Teach your Monster to Read (phonics and spelling). MyLexia is also now available to all students. This will be a new program for our first graders, but it is a great resource to practice reading skills. When they first log in to the program, they will have to complete a reading assessment which will tier the reading to their level.
Dreambox is a wonderful website to practice math skills. Just remember to let your child work at his/her own pace when using Dreambox. It is tiered to their level and lets them work on skills that are most needed.
I know that these computer programs do not replace what we would be doing together in school, but they are excellent games to help keep skills sharp. We would regularly use these games and programs in the classroom. Let me know if your need any help getting your child logged in.
