• Mission Statement

    The Dixon-Smith Middle School Counseling Program aligns with the mission statement of Dixon-Smith Middle School and advocates for all students to become indepenent, life-long learners by promoting essential skills for post-secondary education and career development, hence becoming productinve 21st Century citizens.  School Counselors will strive to provide all students with appropriate and meaningful counseling prevention and intervention which fosters developmentally appropriate social and emotional growth, academic success, and mindfulness; enduring a postivie educational experience.

  • All 8th graders and their parents are strongly encouraged to attend the Rising 9th Grade Orientation at Stafford High School on January 23rd at SHSn from 6:30-8:00.  There will be information regarding course offerings, special programs, and the opportunity to view the school.

  • Please review the following document to learn more about High School Signature Programs and their due dates (for I.B., STAT, and Governor's School).  Counselors will be share more inforation with all 8th graders in January and February.  Mark your calander for February 23 at 6:30 for Rising 9th Grade Orientiaon.  More information is also on this document.

  • Building Leaders for Advancing Science and Technology (BLAST)

    Check out this FREE opportunity to interact with other students from Virginia who are interested in the excitement of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)!

    BLAST offers a dynamic, three-day, residential summer experience on the campuses of Old Dominion University, Virginia Tech and University of Virginia. Through innovative hands-on sessions taught by faculty members and staff, students will explore the fun and excitement of STEM while residing in a college dorm.

Counseling - Announcements

  • Naviance is a new tool that allows students to explore interersts, careers, and colleges.  School counselors will explore and learn this new program with students during the 2019-2020 school year.  To access Naviance, use the following link https://student.naviance.com/dsms  Students' username is their Stafford student ID number and the password is the student's 6 digit birthdate (Example: 042705).  If the 6 digit birthdate does not work, remove the zero at the beginning (Example: 42705).

  • 8th graders have set up College Board accounts and can view helpful information regarding the PSAT assessment.  This test will be given to 8th graders on October 16.  Individual results will be in the student's College Board account.  Usernames for the College Board Accounts are the student's school ID number and the password is the student's first name, six diging birth date, followed by "!" as the special character.  For example:  Samantha042705!
