The Counseling Program at Hampton Oaks strives to support our administration, teachers, families, and community in helping all students reach their full potential as members of society by providing them with a safe and caring learning environment in which to develop their emotional, academic, and social skills, along with a deeper understanding of the community.
Program Initiatives
Individual Counseling:
Referrals to any counseling service can be made by a teacher or other school staff, parents/guardians, or the student. Individual counseling is short-term, voluntary, and confidential.
Small Group Counseling:
Small groups will be offered throughout the year based on the needs of individual students. Groups may focus on, but are not limited to, such issues as family changes, grief, self-esteem, anger management, study skills, and friendship. Your suggestions of group topics that may be helpful to your child are always appreciated. Small-group counseling is short-term, voluntary, and confidential. Parent permission is obtained prior to any small group counseling.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Lessons:
Throughout the year, students will participate in SEL lessons, which will occur every month, for approximately 30 minutes. SEL lessons will often coincide with Stafford County's Word of the Month Program, conflict resolution (Kelso's Choices and K.C.'s Wheel), bullying prevention, stress management, and testing strategies.
Consultation with Families/Staff:The school counselors provide information and assistance to support families and teachers with students' academic, social, and career development.
Coordination and Referral Services:
The school counselors work closely with the school social worker and community agencies to provide support service information and referral services for students and their families.
