May is upon us and we are on the final stretch of our school year. Our students will be working hard to complete their standardized testing this month and we wish them all success as we complete our last quarter of the school year.

Our student musicians in Chorus, Orchestra and Band have been working hard all year. They have an action-packed trips planned to Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens for day of fun and performances. We look forward to their spring concerts here in the month of May. We were also proud of our Artists work displayed at the Fine Arts Festival last month. Their talent is incredible.

Kudos to our spring student athletes on the Timberwolf Softball Team and Boys and Girls Track Team.

Shirley Heim Middle School also hosted our annual Showcase of Learning and families came out for a fun, educational family night. We loved seeing the students’ educational projects on display and seeing performances from the Chorus, Orchestra, Band and Drama students. The games and activities set up by the staff were fantastic and a special thank you to the PTO for hosting concessions. The students loved the sno cones!

Thank you to all the families who came out to support our Barnes and Noble Book Fair. The Jazz Band performances entertained all and we loved the special Timberwolf drinks at the café, as well as the games and endless book selections. The event was a great success thanks to our amazing English Department!! Thank you for supporting our school.

Our 8th grade send off dance will be on June 7 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. We are always looking for volunteers for this fun, Mardi Gras/ New Orleans themed event.

    April 2019

On Saturday, March 30, we are hosting a book fair at the Fredericksburg Barnes & Noble. This event will run from 11-3, and will include fun activities, games, and performances by some of our students. We will receive a percentage of sales from anyone who shops in the store or at the cafe and mentions Shirley Heim as they check out at the register. Our hope is to raise money for more technology and an author visit in 2019. Please share our exciting news and come shop with us on Saturday. It will be a great time to pick up gifts and activities for our upcoming Easter and Spring Break!

    Download Book Fair Form Here

Cheesecakes from the Cheesecake Factory will be sold at the event as well.  Attached you will find an order form in case you'd like to pick up a cheesecake for the family,  You can request the cheesecake either by calling the store's cafe or turning in the attached form in advance. These cheesecakes can be frozen so they'll last longer (like for Easter in a few weeks!).  Please also share with neighbors or other family members in the area.

Spring Break is coming and students are ready for a much-deserved break. Enjoy!  We had a busy and fun-filled March, as several Shirley Heim students traveled to the College of William and Mary to attend the Model United Nations Conference, where our students researched issues, delivered speeches and resolved conflicts through hard work and negotiation.

On March 14thth, our top finalists in our school science fair traveled to the University of Virginia to compete in the Regional Science Fair. The students showed off their projects and completed a series of interviews with the regional judges. A special thank you to Mr. Hicks for all of his support and guidance.

Our Drama Club students did a stellar job performing SHMS’s performance of “Shrek, The Musical, Jr”. The students worked so hard all year and it paid off with their performance. Kudos to Miss Tinker for her time and commitment to our students.

Spring Sports are also underway at Shirley Heim Middle School. Good luck to our student athletes training for our Timberwolf Softball team and Boys and Girls Spring Track team.
