PTO Frequently Asked Questions
The cost is $10.00 per family to join for the year. The cost goes towards printing the calendars and towards the PTO mission.
You will receive the PTO calendar that includes all X & Y days, sports events, school events, days off, early dismissals and of course, all PTO events. The calendar also comes with the Stafford County calendar and the handy AGW Middle School Survival Guide.
Knowing X & Y days is important due to the way classes are scheduled in Middle School. Certain classes are held only on X days or Y days and keeping track of which class to go to is invaluable. Also, if your student is absent or when we have snow days, knowing X & Y days saves a lot of frustration.
You also receive a pen and this year we have been picked by PTO Today to receive special welcome treat bags with samples and coupons which will be included with all of the above!
You will also receive PTO Parent emails throughout the year that will keep you up to date with all PTO events.
No, joining the PTO does not mean you will automatically be a volunteer. We understand that many families in Stafford spend a lot of time commuting or engaging in activities. Joining the PTO will simply help you stay informed of school and PTO events, as well as keeping track of X & Y days, especially in the event of snow days.
The primary mission as a PTO is to provide our school with funds, programs, resources and services that will enrich and maximize the education of every student and support the teachers so that the school will benefit.
The PTO vision is to support A. G. Wright's goal to move instruction into the 21st Century by integrating technology into every English class by providing each student with a Chromebook to use in class.
In order to get funding for the mission and vision, the PTO does a main fundraiser each year. The PTO also hosts Spirit Nights and events that include the surrounding community.
The A.G. Wright PTO offers a different option, where traditional fundraising is eliminated and parents simply give a direct, tax deductible donation. This way, our school receives 100% of the monies! Also, a portion of your child’s fundraising will go into their “8th grade Picnic account” and the funds will carry over each year. Our goal is to make the 8th grade picnic memorable and free to the students.
The PTO was able to buy 16 Chromebooks for the school last year!
Here are just a few programs that the PTO sponsors and/or supports:
Field trip scholarships
Fulfill teacher requests for non budget educational items
Funds the school store
Provides student rewards and SOL incentives
Supports student clubs
Teacher/staff appreciation activities
Supplies candy for "A" day
Hosts FREE movie nights
Supports the 8th grade picnic
MUCH MUCH MORE!
Absolutely! We LOVE our volunteers. We can always use help.
One reason you might want to volunteer is that we are a small, but busy group. Some of our events need many hands to make them a success.
Another reason is to show support for your student and our school.
Or, perhaps you might want to become more involved with the PTO and want to get a better idea of what we do.
The PTO is a team effort in which we cannot succeed on our own.
We have many events that we need help with:
Get the word out about Spirit Nights
Donate or help prepare and serve food at teacher events, such as at Staff Appreciation lunch
Set up and/or clean up at events
Gathering ideas and creating Staff Appreciation gifts
Seek out community business donations for Staff Appreciation gifts
Help the PTO and Administration staff at "A" day. We have 6 lunches to cover with "A" Day
Help with Holiday Grams
SOL Donut Day
SOL Incentive party
8th grade picnic
You can still help the PTO by posting or sharing events such as Spirit Nights on Facebook or Twitter, or telling to your neighbors and friends.
