Congrats to our very own GMS Keepers of the Flame Jazz Band for a wonderful performance at the Colonial Forge Swing Night Event on this past Saturday. The band really played up to their potential and received many wonderful compliments throughout the evening. There will not be a jazz band rehearsal on tomorrow afternoon. Members are reminded to continue to work on their charts as we prepare for our engagement at Colonial Forge HS.

We were scheduled for a rehearsal tomorrow afternoon but my son reminded me of track try outs also slated for Monday afternoon. Those students who wish to try out, are released from the practice session to participate in the track try outs. We were supposed to be done with assessment by now so it would not be fair for us to hold them to a rehearsal that was not scheduled. Students not going to try outs are welcomed to join in on the practice with the band until 5:30. Our last rehearsal for assessment will take place on Monday the 27th.

The VBODA 2017 Concert Band Assessment has been postponed until March 29 and 30 at the same location. All ensembles will perform at their previously scheduled times. Thanks for your patience while we worked through this situation.

Morning Family! I just want to thank you all again for coming out last night. We still have some work to do before assessment but i believe we are headed in the right direction. All 3 ensembles performed well and I hope you heard some growth since the last concert. Please return permission forms as soo as you can!

Parents please be on the watch for the spring trip intent letters that started going home today. The information that you will provide will have a great impact on decisions made moving forward. From this approximate head count we will determine if we have enough musicians to make up a complete ensemble for the festival, determine total cost including registration, park ticket, and transportation, plus get a chaperone count. Try to get the letters back to me by Monday the 27th. Thanks for all you do for our kids!

Jazz Band will not rehearse on tomorrow Friday Jan. 20 due to the big championship basketball game that our team is hosting! See ya next week and continue to work on your blues solos and the new chart.

Due to the predicted inclement weather, there are no Saturday activities until 9:00 a.m. Friday activities are not impacted. Officials will reassess weather conditions at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. If there is no notification, please proceed as normal. The Middle School All District Band auditions scheduled for Saturday, January 14 are rescheduled to Saturday, January 21.

This coming Saturday are the All District Auditions at AGWMS. Students who have played for me will receive the information letter with all the needed details of the event. I wish you all the best of luck.

Mid Semester exam prep. You should have ready the All County Prepared Piece as well as the required scales. Students who have memorized the scales will receive full credit on the exam and students who have to use the scale sheet will not.

Pre Assessment Concert will be held on Wednesday March 8th at 7PM.

This week in class I am demonstrating how to use one of the practice/study aids available to each student who has a method book. The DVD/CD inside the back cover contains video as well as audio tools to assist in home practicing. Simply follow the on screen prompts, and you can practice with the entire band from the comforts of home!

I will also show students how to use the IPS(Interactive Practice Studio) also a component of the method book, The IPS may require your permission and assistance as you have to set up an account using the code given in the back of the method book. More info can be found here:

About Last Night!

Oh my what a great night of music! Thank you all so much for your support thus far this year. Our young musicians are doing a wonderful job so far and just think the best is yet to come!!

Tomorrow is the big day! Please have your students in their seats by 6 PM dressed in their green and black. Hope to see you there!

No Jazz band this afternoon reminder, go to the dance and DANCE!!!!!!

Panther Band students and parents, I'm afraid I have to cancel our previously scheduled rehearsal for this coming Monday December 5. I was so focused on trying to help prepare our musicians for the concert that I neglected to monitor my own schedule of events. This Monday afternoon is the high school All County band auditions at MVHS and being a SCPS music educator, I have to be there to help adjudicate. Thanks to you all who made special plans to attend and or have your student participate in our rehearsal. I do apologize for this oversight on my part and moving forward will ensure that this does not happen again.

Due to attendance concerns, I have decided to add another after school rehearsal to our schedule. Please be prepared to stay after school on Monday November 28th to help us prepare for the big event! The dressed rehearsal will be on Monday December 5th from 3-5:30 and all musicians are encouraged to be present and on time. Absent musicians mean missing parts, creates improper balance, and causes blending issues. Make every effort to come out and practice with us!

Thank you so much for your hard work with the fall fundraiser. We even had every order picked up before 7pm for the first time in years! Please remember to see me Monday for your t-shirts and thanks again for your cooperation.

Instead of meeting in the small gym at the rear of the building, you can collect your items in the cafeteria. Please use the main entrance to the building!
