Course Description

  • The CFHS Concert Orchestra is an entry-level high school string orchestra class.  Students in the ensemble will have three or more years of experience playing a violin, viola, cello or double bass, unless they have special permission to enter the class from the director.  This is a performance-based ensemble class and it is expected that students will perform with the ensemble in November, March and May of each year.  This ensemble performs on an orchestra literature graded levels 2 - 4.  Special, optional extra performances may include but will not be limited to performing in the community and on travel to various theme parks or performance venues such as New York City, Universal Studios or Disney World, both of the latter being in Orlando, Florida.

Students are graded in the following ways:

    • 40% - Classwork
    • 20% - Playing Quizzes
    • 40% - Concert Performances

Please see the CFHS Orchestra Handbook for specifics on grading, performances, dress attire, travel, Forge Orchestra Parents Association, FOPA scholarships, Oettering orchestra, technology, viol shops, private teachers and Eagle Chamber Ensembles.
