Select elementary schools will host the Great Learning Adventure (GLA) for Summer 2022. GLA is a three-week (11 day) learning experience for students. The purpose of summer learning is to support and enrich students’ learning in math and literacy through a problem-based curriculum.
Transportation and meals (breakfast and lunch) will be provided. However, it may take up to 10 days to route your child for transportation.
Conway, Widewater, and Rockhill Elementary will host different programs.

High School Learning Opportunities

During the summer months, high school students may repeat a course or take a new course to earn high school credit. This summer program may help students take an additional course to get ahead, improve their overall GPA, or repeat a course for full credit to meet graduation requirements, and graduate on time.Rising 9th graders can boost their mathematics skills this summer by participating in a PowerUp for Algebra I experience. This hands-on learning approach focuses on essential mathematics and strategies for success in Algebra I.
Registration for new credit AND credit recovery courses opens on April 25. The deadline for registration for new credit courses is May 20; the deadline for registration for credit recovery courses is June 20.
Credit Recovery and New Credit courses will be held at North Stafford HS and Phoenix Center for Innovative Learning. If students do not plan to use bus transportation from their base school, they may attend the summer school site of their choice. If students use bus transportation from their base school, feeders are as follows:
- North Stafford HS: Brooke Point, Mountain View, North Stafford

Middle School Summer Extensions for Mathematics
Summer Extensions for Mathematics
This program is designed for Math 6, Math 7, and Extended Math 6 students to excel in their mathematics course pathway. This blended, online learning course is designed for students to learn new mathematical content to help them be successful in an advanced mathematics course. Students have the option of working online independently, as well as with certified middle school mathematics teachers during predetermined times.
There are three (3) courses available:
- Math 6 to Extended Math 7
- Math 7 to Algebra I
- Extended Math 6 to Algebra I
Courses are available for students currently enrolled in Extended Math 6 and Extended Math 7 courses who may be struggling to master important mathematical concepts.
- Extended Math 6 to Extended Math 7
- Extended Math 7 to Algebra I
Dates: June 6 - July 14 (online)
Time: Virtual assistance will be available at predetermined times each dayDates: June 13 - July 14 (in-person)

Upon successful completion of this online course, students will then be placed in their new mathematics course placement for the 2022-23 school year.
Each middle school will recommend students for this summer program. NWEA MAP scores and a teacher rubric are part of this recommendation process. As always, parents and students interested in pursuing this opportunity should contact the mathematics coach or specialist at their child’s middle school for more information.

High School New/Initial Credit Courses
Registration for new credit courses begins April 25. The deadline for registration is May 20.
Private school students whose parents reside in Stafford County may attend summer school. These students must enroll in "Summer School Focus" for the high school they would attend. These students must pay by cash or money order.
NCAA students must register for initial credit.
Learning Options for Students
- Credit Recovery - June 6 - July 21
- A combination of virtual learning and on-campus learning in the learning lab. All students are welcome (and encouraged) to work in the learning lab. Students should bring headphones to the lab.
- One unit of new credit is the maximum for which a student may enroll. Some courses may include a required end-of-course test to earn a verified credit (SOL or W!SE Financial Literacy exam) to receive high school credit.
- *Potential NCAA athletes must enroll in Summer School for initial credit; these students must physically be present in the learning lab each day, until their course is complete.
- New/initial credit - May 16 - July 21
- Instruction is almost entirely online
- Students must take the midterm, final, and any required end-of-course assessments (SOL or W!SE exam) in the learning lab.
- Should a student fail to make adequate daily progress in the virtual learning environment, they will be required to "catch-up" in the learning lab until they are back on pace. Online courses will be suspended if students fall too far behind. One new unit of credit is the maximum for which a student may enroll at a time.
Additional Student Requirements
- Labs are open to students Monday - Thursday from 9:00am - 1:00pm.
- Once a student is enrolled in a course, they should begin working within 24 hours after May 16.

Rising 9th graders, in need of additional support to prepare them for the rigor of Algebra I, will be invited to participate in a Power-Up Program. Curriculum is designed by Stafford middle and high school Algebra teachers. Content will focus on the required skills for success in Algebra.

Summer Behind the Wheel
Summer Behind the Wheel
These classes are for Stafford County students. Behind The Wheel (BTW) classes are based on student enrollment. The fee for BTW is $225 and will be collected prior to the first day of classes (or at the first day). Payment information will be communicated to families once the enrollment form is completed.
Once a student has registered for BTW, they will receive a confirmation email that contains information on payment options. If a student is eligible for a fee waiver, they should complete the waiver form. Students who appear on the confidential list of fee waivers, and who qualify for reduced lunch, receive a 50% reduction in tuition; students who qualify for free lunch, and who appear on the confidential list of fee waivers, receive a 90% reduction on tuition.

High school students may take online courses offered by Virtual Virginia, with school approval.
Summer Session One is from June 1-July 15; Summer Session Two is from June 15-July 29.
Registration is open now. Coursework may be completed at home.
Tuition is $375 per student, per course.
Students are responsible for the purchase of textbooks that are not available in our schools. Courses are NOT self-paced.
Students taking courses that require an end-of-course assessment (SOL or W!SE) must test at the Phoenix Center or North Stafford HS to receive high school credit.

Experiential Learning for New English Learners
Experiential Learning for New English Learners
The goal of this summer experience is to provide rich, integrated learning experiences for students who are new to the American education system and English language. The learning experiences, directly connected to state standards, will enable students to develop the background knowledge and language skills necessary to be successful in the content classes they will be enrolled in during the regular school year.
Student Eligibility
- All students with limited and/or interrupted formal education (SLIFE) who will be in grades 7-12 next school year.
- Newcomer ELs with a WIDA composite score of 1.0-1.9 who have been enrolled in school in the United States for two years or less.
