As we approach the end of the first semester and say farewell to 2019, I wanted to share with you that the Kindergarteners and First Graders have learned quite a bit already in our monthly classroom guidance lessons. They have learned that finding a “Quiet Place” is important and that although we all have important things to say, our mouths cannot “erupt” or “interrupt” like volcanoes. Additionally, they have gained an understanding of the “Art of Making Friends.” I hope your students have shared with you all of the creative take-aways from our lessons.
2020 will bring some great topics on the difficulties and rewards of making new friends with the reading of Enemy Pie. Your child will also learn about cultural differences and how to accept others for who they are with the books, “ I’m not just a Scribble.” and “The Skin I Live In.” With March Madness excitement, it seems fitting that during the month of March, the students will be exposed to college and career information. We will wrap up the year with a final lesson on transitioning from Kindergarten to First Grade and First to Second Grade. I appreciate your support of the School Counseling Department and for your continued support of your child’s well being.
