Welcome to Miss Peters' Class!
Kindergarten is such a magical time! I can't wait to meet my munchkins soon!
The Kindergarten team hopes this message finds you and your family well during these unprecedented times. With the recent announcement by Governor Northam to close all schools for the remainder of the school year, many of you have reached out regarding lessons for home learning. Please know that our team is working together to create an educational plan for the remainder of the school year. At this time, no new content is being taught. The resources provided below will give students opportunities to review material already taught, many of which are on their instructional level.
We do strongly encourage the use of Lexia and Dreambox, as these are programs that adapt to the individual learner. The kids are very familiar with these programs as we use them everyday. Lessons in each application generally take 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Due to the nature of Lexia and Dreambox, it is recommended that students DO NOT receive help within these lessons, as the program will adapt to each student’s individual skill sets, giving remediation as needed within each program. Please use the badge sent home with your child’s last report card to log-in via Clever on the Rocky Run website. If you need any help or support logging in, please email or dojo your child’s teacher.
Reading at home each day with your child is also vital during this time. Your child has now received a Raz-Kids account which provides them access to eBooks and eQuizzes on their instructional level. Students can take a corresponding eQuiz complete with an extended answer response to test comprehension and determine future instruction needs. Once a child has read ten or more of the leveled eBooks and passed each of the corresponding eQuizzes, they advance on to the next reading level where they have access to lengthier and more difficult text.
Finally, we will be posting a morning message on dojo each day (Monday through Friday) for you to read with your child. We will also include a fun challenge for them to complete that day. This is just a way for us to maintain a relationship with our kids and let them know that we are thinking about them!
We hope that this helps clarify things a bit. If you need anything, please reach out to your child’s teacher via email or dojo. Thanks so much for all of your continued support in your child’s education!
