Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Craig

Hi Hornets! My name is Kirsten Craig and I am one of the LD teachers supporting 2nd-4th graders at Hartwood this year. This will be my fifth year teaching!
I grew up here in Fredericksburg with my 4 siblings. I ventured to NYC and attended Sarah Lawrence College, where I got my bachelors degree and focused on environmental education. I loved NY so much that I stayed teaching place-based education at a nature center there and pursued a Masters in Global Thought from Columbia University. After teaching on the Hudson River for a few years, I decided I wanted to get away from the fishies and into a formal classroom, so I went back to school through Teach for America and got my Masters in the Art of Teaching from Relay Graduate School. I taught 1st grade in an Integrated Co-Teaching classroom for three years in Brooklyn, where I was also a Math Curriculum Specialist for K-2. I moved back to Fredericksburg last year to be closer to family. I am so excited to join the Hartwood community! In my free time, I love baking, watching cooking shows, and playing with my sweet cat Phoebe.
Please feel free to contact me at any time. My email is and the school's phone number is (540)752-4441.
