How to Read a Middle School Schedule and When My Student Should Be in Class
Before we begin...please be aware that classes will begin for students at 10:00am on Monday, 31 August 2020.
We have had a lot of questions regarding how to read a student schudule here at the middle school level. I hope this little tutorial will help you. If you have not downloaded the ParentVUE or StudentVUE apps I would highly recommend it. They are available on the App Store and Google Play and will greatly assist you during you time at the middle and high school levels here in Stafford County. You can find more information about the app at the following links. Link: ParentVUE and Link: StudentVUE.
If you wish to use ParentVUE or StudentVUE from a desktop computer, please use think link: ParentVUE/StudentVUE via desktop device.
The following images are sanitized (all personal identifying info has been removed) screenshots from a students actual StudentVUE. There are identical to what is seen on ParentVUE.'
The image above is a screenshot of the "home" page for StudentVUE. This is the information that you would see when you login. Please note that your name and student identification numbers will appear on the screen in the places indicated. The arrow has been added to the screenshot to show which option to select to view the following screen. You will want to click on the link pointed out by the arrow in the image above. This is the "Class Schedule" option.
You will notice that the student schedule displays the schedule in block order. This particular student has 2 Block 1 classes - 1 on X-days and 1 on Y-days. Since Block 2 (Physical Science) meets everyday, it is the only class indicated for that block. Please note that the Quarter 1 option is selected near the top.
X-days will meet on Tuesday and Thursdays throughout the school year. Y-days will meet on Wednesdays and Fridays. The only exception to this is our first week of school. Monday, 31 Aug and Wednesday, 2 Sept 2020 are both X-days, Tuesday, 1 Sept and Thursday, 3 Sept 2020 are both Y-days. Be aware that this is ONLY for the first week of school.
On the right side of the screen is our master schedule for the times this school year.
X-Day Classes
Block 1X meets Tuesday/Thursday from 10:00am - 11:10am
Block 2X meets Tuesday/Thursday from 11:15am - 12:15pm
Lunch is from 12:20pm to 12:50pm for everyone
Block 3X meets Tuesday/Thursday from 12:55 to 1:55pm
Block 4X meets Tuesday/Thursday from 2:00pm to 3:00pm
Y-Day Classes
Block 1Y meets Wednesday/Friday from 10:00am - 11:10am
Block 2Y meets Wednesday/Friday from 11:15am - 12:15pm
Lunch is from 12:20pm to 12:50pm for everyone
Block 3Y meets Wednesday/Friday from 12:55 to 1:55pm
Block 4Y meets Wednesday/Friday from 2:00pm to 3:00pm
Science (Science 6, Life Science 7, Physical Science 8) and Social Studies (US History, Civic, World Geography) meet everyday Tuesday through Friday for a semester. An example would be our Student Schedule above. That students' Block 2 is a science class that will meet everyday for the first semester. That student would then switch to World Geography beginning in Quarter 3, staying with the Block 2 time frame.
Please be aware that beginning Monday, 8 September 2020 there are no in-person or virtual classes via Google Meet. Monday is set aside from asynchronous learning. If a student needs extra help or has questions, this would be a great time to reach out to that teacher and see what can be done. Teachers will also have daily "office hours" for students to get assistance.
