Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I'm so excited to be working with all of you again this year! I always say I get to work with the most wonderful students at Ferry Farm! Of course all of our teachers feel this way! Our theme at FFES this year is "Ferry Farm- The Greatest School on Earth". Well, I certainly feel that I have the greatest students on earth! My students arrive at school with many diverse gifts and talents and are always looking for opportunities to stretch themselves and develop those gifts and talents. Last year my students in 4th and 5th grades were required to read "Eat that Frog" by Brian Tracey. The book stresses the power of perseverance and the value of true effort towards a common goal. With that said, this year I had to create a Frog Circus outside my room. All of my students will be reviewing our important Frog Rules: 1.) Eat the biggest ugliest frog first. 2.) Keep your lilly pad neat and organized. 3.) Listen to your Bull Frog teacher. 4.) Know which lily pad you are jumping to next! 5.) Eat the biggest ugliest frog one little bite at a time. 6.) Kiss that Frog (face your fears.) We will be discussing the meaning of each of these at the start of the year. I'm excited to be working with such terrific students. I know my "performers" come with many different talents, strengths and interests. And I know each one will "Step Right UP" to the challenges of Focus and give it all they've got!
We are currently putting teams together for DI. If your child is interested in being a part of a team please let me know. Our informational meeting is at 5:00 on Thursday, Oct. 6th. At this time we have no team managers so please consider being a part of this worthwhile program. I have seven students who would like to participate so I know at this time we need two team managers for that team. Past participants have first choice as far as participating on a team is concerned. If there are additional students we will be in need of addtional team managers. I always request that we have two managers per team to meet all of the needs of the team members as well as the program requirements. If your child is interested in participating please consider being a team manager. Without Team Managers we have no teams. Training is provided by Stafford County. The following dates may be of interest to you:
Team Manager Training: Nov. 5th 8:30-12:30 @ RES
Regional Appraiser Training- Feb. 11th, 2017 @ RES
Regional DI Tournament @ North Stafford H.S.- March 4th, 2017
Virginia State DI Tournament at Atlee H.S., Mechanicsvile, VA- April 8
Global Finals in Knoxville, TN-May 24th-27th
In order for the We Do and MindStorms programs to continue we are in need of PC laptops. If you have old laptops lying around and are willing to let our FFES students use them we would greatly appreciate it. Please contact Sheri Sullivan or Caren Kutch at 373-7366 and we will gladly put them to good use educating our students.
