Focus on Excellence: Stafford's Gifted and Accelerated Program

Welcome to the Focus program at Winding Creek Elementary School!  The Focus program in Stafford County is designed to provide services for academically gifted students.  At the elementary school level, students identified as needing gifted services are cluster-grouped within otherwise heterogeneously grouped classes.  As your Focus Resource Teacher, I will meet regularly with the identified students and serve as a resource to teachers in meeting the academic needs of highly-capable students.  Please read through the announcements to learn more about various learning opportunities.  Also know that the Stafford County Focus webpage has more information on our county's program.  As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding your son or daughter.

If you have any questions, please email me at fieldsrd@staffordschools.net or call the school at 540-658-6400.

  • wm     Word Masters Challenge

WordMasters is an analogy challenge open to 3rd-5th grade students.  This challenge occurs three times a year during which students will be given a list of 25 difficult vocabulary terms to study in order to prepare for the analogy quiz/contest.  Once lists are available, I will place them on this Google site for students to use in preparation.  Also, know that I will post a link to a power point presentation with the words and their definitions, along with a link to a quizlet site for students to use as soon as I receive  them from parent volunteers.  If you have any questions, let me know. Click here to go to the Google site I've created with the Word Masters resources.

  • math Math Contests
Beginning in September, students in grades 3-5 have the opportunity to participate in a monthly problem solving competition. Be ready to use some of my favorite strategies: finding a pattern, drawing a picture, making a table or chart, and working backward!
