4802-R02 - Authorized Leaves: Sick Leave

Sick leave is available for all contracted employees. 

• Usage: Can be used only for your own or eligible family members’ illness, injury, or medical appointments.
• Documentation: For absences exceeding 5 days, a doctor's note or other medical documentation is  required. This may include absences of over 5 days which combine the use of sick and personal, vacation, or LWOP days.
• Coordination: Sick leave may run concurrently with other leave types, such as FMLA, if applicable. Sick leave cannot be interchanged with or substituted for another type of leave.

4802-R03 - Authorized Leaves: Personal Leave

Personal leave is available to attend to emergency or non-emergency matters that are important to employees. 

4802-R04 - Authorized Leaves: Vacation Leave

Vacation leave days are available for 12-month, full-time employees. The number of days earned and amount of leave that can be carried from one fiscal year to the next are based on employees’ continuous, consecutive years of service in a 12 month position as of June 30.

4802-R06 - Authorized Leaves: Family and Medical Leave

FMLA provides eligible employees with up to 12 workweeks of unpaid, job-protected leave per year for specific family and medical reasons.  While FMLA is an unpaid benefit, your available leave balances will be used to cover as many days as possible. 

• Eligibility: To be eligible, an employee must have worked for Stafford Schools for at least 12 months and have at least 1,250 hours of service during the 12-month period immediately preceding the leave.
• Benefits Continuation: Health benefits are maintained during FMLA leave under the same conditions as if you continued to work.  
• When is FMLA used:  Employees who are absent from work for over 5 consecutive days for their own illness or the illness of an eligible family member should inquire about FMLA.

4802-R09 - Authorized Leave: Bereavement Leave

We offer paid bereavement leave to support employees during the difficult time of losing an immediate family member. Eligible family members are defined in the “General Provisions” regulation linked above.

4802-R11 - Authorized Leaves: Civil Duty Leaves

Civil leave is available to contracted employees who are on jury duty, appearing in court as a result of an eligible subpoena, legal proceedings related to their job or to serve as an officer of elections.

4802-R10 - Authorized Leaves: Military Leave

In accordance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), employees who serve in the uniformed services are granted leave and reemployment rights.

• Notification: Employees must provide advance notice of military service to their supervisor and the Payroll and Benefits Department whenever possible.
• Duration & Reemployment: Specific rights and the duration of leave vary based on the length and type of service.

4802-R14 - Authorized Leaves: Leave Without Pay

In certain circumstances, unpaid leave may be granted for reasons not covered by other policies. These requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

• Approval: Such leave in excess of 5 consecutive workdays requires prior approval from your supervisor and HR.
• Voluntary Leave Without Pay request form
