Early Transfer Process for Licensed Staff

Fall 2025 for 2026-27 School Year for Falls Run Elementary, Crow’s Nest Elementary, and Hartwood High

The early transfer period for full-time licensed staff (all staff paid on the teacher salary scale) interested in one of Stafford’s three new schools is now open. The early transfer process allows employees to use one Transfer List to share interest in potential positions.

Licensed employees interested in seeking a position at one of the three new schools within Stafford County should read these directions carefully. The Master Transfer List for all schools will open in February 2026. Those on the Early Transfer List will automatically be included in the Spring Master Transfer List.

Eligibility

Any full-time, contracted employee who is in the following job categories, and who is in good standing at their current school and will be recommended for continued employment, is eligible to participate in the transfer process:

Teachers of all subjects
School-based specialists (e.g., reading specialist, ILC)
Counselors

Full-time staff who are currently in split positions, working at multiple schools, can use the transfer process to seek a position fully housed at one school. Part-time staff, hourly staff, substitutes, and all other service employees besides paraprofessionals do not participate in the formal transfer process; instead, such employees should apply to individual open positions as they are posted in Employment Opportunities.

One note - if you are applying to a completely different job type (for example, a paraprofessional applying to become a teacher), you cannot use the transfer application and should instead use the normal application for that position and/or candidate pool.

Timelines

October 1 - 17 - This is the window for eligible employees to complete the information necessary to be added to the Early Transfer List. This serves as the application for a transfer; no other applications are needed.

November 6 - December 9 - During this window, selected staff who have signed up for the Early Transfer List, have shared with their principal their interest in transferring, and whose principals have indicated the staff member is in good standing, will be invited to interview during planning Transfer Interview Nights.

Week of December 15 - The Department of Human Resources will begin offering Early Transfer positions. Note that not all positions will be filled during the Early Transfer window, and offers will continue as part of the Master Transfer process in the spring.

How to Apply

For approved transfers during the Early transfer window, the employee must be on the Early Transfer List; this will ensure that their current principal is aware of the potential for a transfer and can prepare accordingly, while still giving the employee the opportunity to seek other opportunities at these three schools.

In early February, Human Resources will make available a form to place your name on the Master Transfer List and to share your preferences for a new assignment. Again, those on the Early Transfer List will automatically be included on the Master Transfer List. Your current administrator will be asked to confirm that you are in good standing and recommended for continued employment. The deadline to add your name to the Early Transfer List is October 17.

Expectations and Reminders

All staff are strongly encouraged to speak with their current principal before applying for or accepting transfer positions. Doing so gives both parties the opportunity to discuss your interests and whether there are opportunities that might lead you to stay in your current school or assignment.

All administrators are expected to contact the current school of a staff member before extending an offer via transfer.

Administrators are not obligated to interview every candidate who applies for a transfer, nor are they obligated to interview internal candidates prior to interviewing external candidates. External offers may be delayed until potential destaffing is resolved.

All offers for transfer will be made by the Department of Human Resources.
